On June 11, we visited the Cincinnati Children's hospital for the first time in about a year. We had not been too impressed before, but they might be our only option to get Shade the surgery he needs in a timely manner. I wrote the following on my personal Facebook page after the visit:
"We got great news today! We went back to Cincinnati Children's hospital for the first time in about a year to see if they would re-evaluate Shade. They are closer than Minnesota and they accept Shade's insurance. We were surprised to learn that the doctors in Cincinnati were inspired by Shade (among other factors) to start a team of doctors and implement a program modeled after the one in Minnesota. They went to MN and met all the doctors and everything. My baby and me and Dan helped make that happen! They are going to review his files and get more records from Kosair and MN and we are going to go back probably at the end of July for a proper evaluation to see if they can help him. I honestly expected them to say they couldn't help him yet (like last time), but they have been busy since then! I am so hopeful!"
Well, it is nearing the middle of July and we are scheduled for a proper evaluation on July 17! He will be meeting with a surgeon, a geneticist, and a GI. Yes, it is the same GI that we worked with before who made a couple of mistakes. We decided to be honest with him about how we felt, and he apologized for making us feel like we were not heard. That was so nice. Also, he cleared up the gallstone issue. He showed us the imaging that was done while Shade was inpatient there back in February of 2013 and he did indeed have gallstones at that time. He said that they must have dissolved before he had anymore imaging. We are still pulling for Minnesota to be our hospital, but we feel much, much better about the possibility of having the surgery in Cincinnati. As long as my baby gets what he needs, I am fine. He is my number one concern. Always.
